File Transfer: Phone ⇄ Computer

Send photos, videos and files between your phone and computer, or any two devices, on any networks. Up to 10 GB per file. No app, no account, no upload: files go straight from one device to the other.

🔒 Files never stored
What “files never stored” means for this tool

Files go straight between your two devices over an encrypted link that only those two devices can read. They are never uploaded to this website or stored anywhere.

How the devices find each other: for a few seconds, a small pairing service (pair.kcnebula.com) passes connection details between them, such as their internet addresses. It never sees the files, their names or their sizes, keeps nothing on disk, and forgets each pairing within 10 minutes.

Different networks are fine (say your phone on mobile data and your computer on home Wi-Fi): each device finds its own public internet address and they connect straight across the internet. A few networks, such as some office, school and mobile networks, block direct links. If yours does, the page tells you, and putting both devices on the same Wi-Fi fixes it. Files are never sent through a server instead.

On the receiving device, large files are written to the browser's own private storage as they arrive, then removed after you save them.

Who can see what: the two devices learn each other's internet address, as with any direct connection. Like any website, the server that delivers this page sees basic connection details such as your IP address. This site counts visits with privacy-friendly analytics: no cookies, no ads, never anything you send.

On your other device, scan this code

or open kcnebula.com/transfer and type

····-····

Send the link to your other device (text, email, chat) and open it there to link up.

Got a code from another device?

Type the 8-character code it shows.

How it works

  1. Open this page on both devices. Any phone, tablet or computer with a modern browser. No app, no account.
  2. Pair them. Scan the code with the other device's camera, or type the 8-character code into it. Each code works once and expires after 10 minutes.
  3. Check the symbols. Both screens show the same four symbols when the link is private to your two devices. If they differ, press Disconnect.
  4. Send. Drop files in on either device, in either direction, as many as you like, up to 10 GB each. On the other device, press Save (or Share… on phones).

How often does linking fail, and why?

Most pairs of devices link directly. In studies of real-world connections, roughly 8 to 15 in every 100 pairs of networks can't, because of how the network is set up rather than anything wrong with your devices:

The fix: put both devices on the same Wi-Fi, or turn on your phone's hotspot and join it from the computer. Direct links between devices on the same network almost always work. Files are never sent through a server as a fallback.

How to use the File Transfer: Phone ⇄ Computer

  1. Open this page on both devices.
  2. On one, scan the code the other shows (or type its 8-character code).
  3. Check both screens show the same symbols.
  4. Drop files in on either device. They arrive on the other one: press Save.

Questions

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. They go straight from one device to the other over an encrypted link. A small pairing service introduces the two devices for a few seconds (it passes their connection details, like internet addresses) but never sees the files, their names or sizes, and keeps nothing.

Do both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi?

No. Your phone can be on mobile data and your computer on home Wi-Fi: the two devices connect straight across the internet. A few office, school and mobile networks block direct links; if that happens the page says so, and putting both devices on the same Wi-Fi fixes it.

How big can files be?

Up to 10 GB per file, and as many files as you like. The receiving device checks it has room first. Older iPhone browsers can only receive up to 500 MB per file; use Chrome there for bigger ones. Speed depends on your connection; on home Wi-Fi a 1 GB video usually takes a minute or two.

Do I need an app or an account?

No. It works in the web browser on phones, tablets and computers: Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox.

What are the symbols for?

They prove the two devices are talking only to each other. Both screens show the same four symbols only if nobody got in between. If they differ, press Disconnect.

Why did the transfer stop?

Both pages must stay open until it finishes. On phones, keep the screen on and the browser in front; switching apps can pause it.

Why does linking take a few seconds?

The two devices try a few ways to reach each other and use the first that works. On the same Wi-Fi it is usually instant; across different networks it can take a few seconds.
