What Is My IP Address?
Your public IP address is the number every website sees when you connect. Here it is, with the rough location, internet provider and network details that come with it.
What “shown to you, never kept” means for this tool
Every website you visit receives your IP address automatically, because that is how the internet sends the page back to you. This page simply asks this site's server what it received and shows you the answer. Nothing is written down, logged or stored, and no other website or lookup service is contacted.
Where the location comes from: the network that delivers this site estimates it from your IP address. It usually names the right city or one nearby, never your street or home.
The device checks (time zone, language) run inside your browser and are compared on your device.
Visit counting: this site counts visits with privacy-friendly analytics. No cookies, no ads, no tracking across other sites, and your IP address is not stored. It records which page you opened, your country, your device type and how long you stayed.
Location (estimated)
Based on your IP address, not GPS. Usually the right city or one nearby; never your street.

Good to know
- Your IP is not your home address. It points to your internet provider and a rough area. Only the provider can match it to an account, and normally only for a court order.
- It changes. Most home and phone connections get a new IP now and then, for example when the router restarts. Your phone gets a different one on Wi-Fi than on mobile data.
- To hide it, use a VPN or a privacy browser like Tor. Then sites see the VPN's address and location instead of yours.
- Websites learn more than your IP. See everything your browser gives away with What Does My Browser Reveal?

Questions
What is an IP address?
The number that identifies your internet connection, so websites know where to send the pages you ask for. Every site you visit sees it.
Can someone find my home from my IP address?
Not from the IP alone. It shows your internet provider and a rough area, usually the city. Only the provider knows which customer had it, and normally only shares that for a court order.
Why is the location wrong?
IP locations are estimates. Mobile networks and some providers route traffic through a city far away, and a VPN shows the VPN server’s location instead of yours.
What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.42 and are running out. IPv6 is the newer, much longer kind, like 2001:db8::1. Many connections have both, and a site sees whichever one your device uses.
Is my IP address stored?
No. The page asks this site’s server what address it received, shows it to you and keeps nothing.
