What “runs on your device” means for this tool
When you open this page, your browser downloads the test itself, the same way any web page loads. From then on, everything you type is checked inside your browser, on your own device. Your keystrokes are never sent to this website's server or to anyone else.
What is saved: your best score and chosen settings, in this browser only. Clearing your browsing data removes them.
Visit counting: this site counts visits with privacy-friendly analytics. No cookies, no ads, no tracking across other sites, and your IP address is not stored. It records which page you opened, your country, your device type, how long you stayed and when you finish a test (not what you typed).
Start typing to begin. Press Tab or Esc to restart.

Questions
What is a good typing speed?
Most adults type 35 to 40 words per minute. 60 or more is fast, 80 or more is professional level, and the fastest typists pass 120.
How is WPM worked out?
Every 5 correctly typed characters, spaces included, count as one word. Your WPM is that number divided by the minutes taken. Raw speed counts every key you pressed, right or wrong.
How can I type faster?
Look at the screen, not the keys, keep your fingers on the home row (ASDF and JKL;), and practise a few minutes every day. Go for accuracy first; speed follows.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, it works with your phone’s keyboard too, though phone scores are usually lower than on a real keyboard.
Is what I type saved or sent?
No. Everything you type is checked in your browser. Only your best score and settings are remembered in this browser.
