Samsung patents 5G signal method for multi-antenna devices

Patent drawing
Patent drawing from the official filing.

This filing describes a method for mobile devices to send reference signals to cell towers in 5G or 6G networks. It details how the device maps multiple antenna ports to specific time slots to help the tower measure signal quality.

Why it mattersThis is a technical update to how data is transmitted in next-generation networks, ensuring better connection stability for high-speed data.

In the filing’s own words

The present disclosure relates to a 5G or 6G communication system for supporting higher data transmission rates. A method performed by a terminal of a communication system according to one embodiment of the present disclosure comprises the steps of: receiving, from a base station, configuration information including the number (N s) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols associated with a sounding reference signal (SRS) resource and the number (N) of antenna ports associated with the SRS resource; identifying the antenna ports mapped to each of the OFDM symbols associated with the SRS resource; and transmitting SRSs to the base station in the OFDM symbols associated with the SRS resource on the basis of the antenna ports mapped to each of the OFDM symbols, wherein N may be 8 or greater.
