Samsung patents method to refine UWB location using signal quality
Samsung describes a method for electronic devices to calculate their position using ultra-wideband (UWB) signals. The system filters signals based on how direct the path is to the source, then verifies the calculated location falls within a specific group of signal transmitters before accepting it.
In the filing’s own words
The present disclosure provides a method by which an electronic device determines the location of an ultra-wideband (UWB) signal. The method of the present disclosure may comprise the steps of: identifying, on the basis of a line of sight (LOS) probability for multiple received UWB signals, a preconfigured number of UWB signals from the multiple received UWB signals; obtaining the location of the electronic device by using the identified UWB signals; determining whether the obtained location is within an area of a cluster configured by UWB anchors transmitting the identified UWB signals; and determining, if the obtained location is within the area of the cluster, the obtained location as the final location of the electronic device. Here, each of the multiple received UWB signals may include a UWB message for downlink-time difference of arrival (DL-TDoA) positioning.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method of an electronic device, the method comprising: identifying a predetermined number of ultra-wideband (UWB) signals from among a plurality of received UWB signals, based on line of sight (LOS) probabilities for the plurality of received UWB signals; obtaining a location of the electronic device by using the identified UWB signals; determining whether the obtained location is within an area of a cluster configured with UWB anchors which transmit the identified UWB signals; and in case that the obtained location is within the area of the cluster, determining the obtained location as a final location of the electronic device, wherein each of the plurality of received UWB signals comprises a UWB message for downlink-time difference of arrival (DL-TDoA) positioning.
