Samsung patents Wi-Fi method to check neighbor router load
Samsung has filed a patent for a way to help Wi-Fi devices find out how busy nearby routers are. The system lets a device ask its current router or a nearby one for data on how much traffic is being handled, helping it decide if it should switch connections.
In the filing’s own words
Methods and apparatuses for discovery of basic service set (BSS) load information of a neighboring access point (AP) multi-link device (MLD) in a wireless local area network (WLAN). A method performed by a non-AP MLD includes receiving, from (i) a current AP MLD that is associated with a plurality of AP MLDs or (ii) a target AP MLD associated with the plurality of AP MLDs, BSS load information associated with the target AP MLD. The BSS load information includes current values of BSS load parameters associated with the BSS load information. The method includes determining a BSS load of the target AP MLD based on the current values of the BSS load parameters associated with the BSS load information.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method performed by a non-access point (AP) multi-link device (MLD), the method comprising: receiving, from (i) a current AP MLD that is associated with a plurality of AP MLDs or (ii) a target AP MLD associated with the plurality of AP MLDs, basic service set (BSS) load information associated with the target AP MLD, wherein the BSS load information includes current values of BSS load parameters associated with the BSS load information; and determining a BSS load of the target AP MLD based on the current values of the BSS load parameters associated with the BSS load information.
