Samsung patents faster cell switching for 5G and 6G phones
Samsung has filed a patent for a method that helps phones switch between cell towers more quickly during a handover. The system uses specific signal codes to reduce the delay when a device moves from one network area to another.
In the filing’s own words
The present disclosure relates to a 5G or 6G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate beyond a 4G communication system such as LTE. The present disclosure relates to a method and a device for transmitting or receiving a preamble for random access, which can reduce a time delay during handover in a wireless communication system, and a method of a terminal for random access during handover from a source cell to a target cell in a wireless communication system according to an embodiment of the present disclosure comprises the steps of: transmitting measurement information of the source cell and the target cell to a first base station of the source cell; receiving an RRC message including RACH configuration information of the target cell from the first base station; and sequentially transmitting one or more preambles for the random access to a second base station of the target cell on the basis of the RACH configuration information, wherein the RACH configuration information includes, as list information, multiple preamble indices and multiple SSB indices mapped to multiple ROs for transmitting the one or more preambles by the terminal in a random access procedure.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method of a user equipment (UE) for random access during handover from a source cell to a target cell in a wireless communication system, the method comprising: transmitting measurement information about the source cell and the target cell to a first base station of the source cell; receiving a radio resource control (RRC) message including random access channel (RACH) configuration information about the target cell from the first base station; and sequentially transmitting at least one preamble for the random access to a second base station of the target cell based on the RACH configuration information, wherein the RACH configuration information includes a plurality of synchronization signal block (SSB) indices and a plurality of preamble indices mapped to a plurality of RACH occasions (ROs) for the UE to transmit the at least one preamble in a random access procedure as list information.
