Samsung patents way for phones to rejoin local 5G networks
Samsung has filed a patent for a method that helps mobile devices manage their connection to private, local 5G networks. The system allows a phone to automatically remove a specific network from its 'forbidden' list if certain conditions are met, enabling the device to reconnect to localized services it previously blocked.
In the filing’s own words
The disclosure relates to a 5G or 6G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate. The present application discloses a method of improved SNPN registration procedure and of dynamically updating a forbidden standalone non-public network (SNPN) list for improved access to localized service. The method comprises performing an SNPN selection procedure for selecting an SNPN and determining, that the UE is unable to select the SNPN for being present in the forbidden SNPN list.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method performed by a terminal in a wireless communication system, the method comprising: identifying whether the terminal supports access to a standalone non-public network (SNPN) providing access for a localized service in the SNPN; identifying whether a preconfigured condition is satisfied, in case that the terminal supports access to the SNPN providing access for the localized service in the SNPN; and removing the SNPN from a list associated with at least one forbidden SNPN, in case that the preconfigured condition is satisfied.
