Samsung patents method to split 5G network tasks by speed

Patent drawing
Patent drawing from the official filing.

Samsung describes a way to organize 5G and 6G networks by separating tasks into two groups: those that need immediate attention and those that can wait. The system identifies different network layers and assigns them to a real-time section or a non-real-time section to manage them separately.

Why it mattersThis is a technical improvement for network engineers that helps manage data flow more efficiently, but it is unlikely to change how users experience their phones or internet.

In the filing’s own words

The present disclosure relates to a 5G communication system or a 6G communication system for supporting higher data rates beyond a 4G communication system such as long term evolution (LTE). Embodiments herein provide a method and apparatus ( 301) to host real time layer and non-real time layer in a telecommunication network. The method includes detecting, by apparatus ( 301), a plurality of network layers. Further splitting a first set of network layers of the plurality of network layers into a real time layer and a second set of network layers of the plurality of network layers into a non-real time layer. Furthermore, hosting the RT layer ( 313) of the apparatus ( 301) for managing RT functionalities and the NRT layer ( 311) of the apparatus ( 301) for managing NRT functionalities of the telecommunication network.

What exactly they claim (claim 1)

1. A method of splitting Real Time (RT) and Non-Real Time (NRT) functionality in a telecommunication network, comprises: detecting, by an apparatus ( 301), a plurality of network layers, wherein the plurality of network layers is at least one of an application layer, Internet Protocol Layer, service data adaption protocol layer, packet data convergence protocol layer, radio link control layer, Medium access control layer and a physical layer; splitting, by the apparatus ( 301), a first set of network layers of the plurality of network layers into a real time layer and a second set of network layers of the plurality of network layers into a non-real time layer; and hosting, by the apparatus ( 301), the RT layer ( 313) of the apparatus ( 301) for managing RT functionalities and the NRT layer ( 311) of the apparatus ( 301) for managing NRT functionalities of the telecommunication network.
