Samsung patents 5G handover method for faster network switching
Samsung has filed a patent application describing a method for 5G or 6G networks to prepare for a specific type of device handover called LTM. When a device moves between network points, the target network reserves resources or updates its configuration to ensure a smooth transition, sending a confirmation or failure message back to the original network.
In the filing’s own words
The disclosure relates to a 5G or 6G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate. According to an embodiment. Embodiments herein disclose methods for preparing for LTM in a wireless network ( 1000) by a target network entity ( 110 b). The method includes receiving a handover request message from a source network entity ( 110 a). Further, the method includes performing, on receiving the handover request message, at least one of: preparing for the LTM by reserving at least one resource for the LTM, replacing a prepared LTM candidate configuration, and an unsuccessful LTM preparation. Further, the method includes sending one of: a handover request acknowledge message in response to successfully preparing for the LTM by reserving the at least one resource for the LTM or replacing the prepared LTM candidate configuration based on the handover request message, and a handover preparation failure message to the source network entity ( 110 a) when the LTM preparation is unsuccessful based on the handover request message.
