Samsung patents mixing wide and narrow radio signals for better device discovery
Samsung describes a method for Ultra Wide Band (UWB) devices to find each other using a mix of wide and narrow radio channels. The process involves one device sending a discovery signal, receiving a response, and confirming the connection through a specific initialization channel.
In the filing’s own words
The present disclosure provides a method for operating an ultra wide band (UWB) channel and a narrowband (NB) channel together. According to various embodiments of the disclosure, a method of a first UWB device may comprise the operations of: broadcasting, through an initialization channel, a first message (Adv Poll) that provides information used for the discovery of the first UWB device; receiving, through the initialization channel, from a second UWB device, a second message (Adv RESP) that responds to the first message (Adv Poll); and transmitting, through the initialization channel, to the second UWB device, a third message (Adv DEFERRED or Adv CONF) corresponding to the second message (Adv RESP). The initialization channel can include at least one from among NB channels.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method of a first ultra-wide band (UWB) device, the method comprising: broadcasting a first message (Adv Poll) providing information used for discovery of the first UWB device through an initialization channel; receiving a second message (Adv RESP) responding to the first message (Adv Poll) from a second UWB device through the initialization channel; and transmitting a third message (Adv DEFERRED or Adv CONF) corresponding to the second message (Adv RESP) to the second UWB device through the initialization channel, wherein the initialization channel includes at least one of narrow band (NB) channels.
