Samsung patents method to place network functions in telecom cores
Samsung has filed a patent application describing a method for organizing how different software functions are placed within a telecommunications network core. The system gathers information about available resources, physical links, and specific network procedures to determine the best location for these functions. It then communicates this placement plan to other parts of the network to ensure user demands are met.
In the filing’s own words
Embodiments of the present application provide a method of placing Service Function Chains, SFCs, in a service-based architecture of telecommunication network, comprising steps of providing a Network Function, NF, operable to: a)register itself with a Network Resource Function, NRF, so as to make itself discoverable to other NFs; b)gather information and status relating to resources in the telecommunication network, as well as information relating to virtual links; c)gather information and status relating to an underlying physical network, including information relating to physical links, their total and used capacities; d)gather information related to certain Core Network, CN, procedures to be implemented; e)gather information relating to Virtual Network Functions, VNFs, needed to implement the CN procedures and their associated resource requirement; f)implement the placement of the SFCs for the CN procedures to satisfy given user demands, over available infrastructure resources; and g) communicate the placement to at least one further entity.
