Samsung patents wireless charging that pauses when you pick up your phone
Samsung has filed a patent for a method where a device wirelessly charging itself can detect an event, such as being picked up, and send a signal to the charger to stop sending power. While the power is paused, the screen continues to show that the device is in a charging state rather than turning off or changing the display. This ensures the user interface remains consistent even if the physical connection is interrupted briefly.
In the filing’s own words
The present application relates to an electronic device for wirelessly receiving power and an operating method thereof. The electronic device wirelessly receives power from an external electronic device through a power reception circuit, displays, on a display, while receiving the power, first information that indicates the state in which the electronic device is being charged, checks, while receiving the power, the occurrence of an event designated to temporarily interrupt the reception of power, provides, on the basis of the occurrence of the event, a first packet for requesting the external electronic device to temporarily interrupt the transmission of power, and maintains, on the basis of the provision of the first packet, the display of the first information on the display while the reception of the power is interrupted.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An electronic device comprising: a power reception circuit configured to wirelessly receive power; a display; at least one processor; and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor individually or collectively, cause the electronic device to: wirelessly receive, through the power reception circuit, power from an external electronic device, display, on the display, first information indicating a state in which the electronic device is being charged while receiving the power, identify an occurrence of an event designated to temporarily stop receiving the power, while receiving the power, based on the occurrence of the event, provide a first packet for requesting to temporarily stop transmitting the power to the external electronic device, and based on providing the first packet, maintain displaying the first information on the display while the reception of the power is stopped.
