Samsung patents faster 5G network switching method
Samsung has filed a patent for a method that helps mobile devices switch between cell towers in 5G or 6G networks. The system uses pre-saved settings to quickly update the device's connection when moving, reducing the time needed to reconfigure the link.
In the filing’s own words
The disclosure relates to a 5G or 6G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate. A method performed by a terminal in a wireless communication system is provided. The method comprises obtaining, from a base station, an L1/L2 triggered mobility (LTM) reference configuration and one or more LTM candidate configurations; receiving, from the base station, a cell switch command indicating an LTM candidate configuration among the one or more LTM candidate configurations; based on whether a particular indicator is included in the LTM candidate configuration indicated by the cell switch command, determining whether the LTM candidate configuration indicated by the cell switch command is a complete configuration; and in case that the LTM candidate configuration indicated by the cell switch command is not a complete configuration, applying a radio resource control (RRC) reconfiguration message included in the LTM candidate configuration indicated by the cell switch command to the LTM reference configuration.
