Samsung patents antenna tweak to boost 5G signal strength
Samsung has filed a patent for a method to improve how phones send wireless signals. The system uses a component between the signal booster and the antenna to adjust electrical resistance, which helps the device use its battery more efficiently while transmitting data.
In the filing’s own words
The present disclosure relates to a 5G or 6G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate than a 4G communication system such as LTE. An electronic device in a wireless communication system, according to the present disclosure, comprises an RF transmitter and a control unit, wherein the RF transmitter comprises: a power amplifier that amplifies power of a signal; an antenna that transmits the signal; and an output power adaptive optimizer disposed between the power amplifier and the antenna to adjust antenna input impedance, and the control unit may optimize output power of the power amplifier by adjusting the antenna input impedance by using the output power adaptive optimizer.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An electronic device in a wireless communication system including a radio frequency (RF) transmitter, the electronic device comprising: an RF transmitter; and a control unit, wherein the RF transmitter includes: a power amplifier amplifying power of a signal, an antenna transmitting the signal, and an output power adaptive optimizer disposed between the power amplifier and the antenna to adjust antenna input impedance, and wherein the control unit is configured to optimize output power of the power amplifier by adjusting the antenna input impedance using the output power adaptive optimizer.
