Samsung patents method to compress wireless channel data
Samsung has filed a patent for a way to report channel state information (CSI) in wireless networks using compression and transformation matrices. The method allows a device to send a smaller amount of data by converting information from one set of ports or frequency bands to another.
In the filing’s own words
Apparatuses and methods for training-based channel state information (CSI) in wireless communication systems. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving information about a CSI report based on a compression, matrix determining the CSI report based on the compression matrix and a transformation matrix, and transmitting the CSI report. The compression matrix is associated with P ports or N subbands (SBs). The CSI report is associated with Q ports or R SBs, where P≠Q, and N≠R. The transformation matrix transforms Q ports to P ports or R SBs to N SBs.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A user equipment (UE), comprising: a transceiver configured to receive information about a channel state information (CSI) report based on a compression matrix, wherein: the compression matrix is associated with P ports or N subbands (SBs), and the CSI report is associated with Q ports or R SBs, where P≠Q, and N≠R; and a processor operably coupled to the transceiver, the processor configured to determine the CSI report based on the compression matrix and a transformation matrix, wherein the transformation matrix transforms (i) Q ports to P ports or (ii) R SBs to N SBs, and wherein the transceiver is further configured to transmit the CSI report.
