Samsung patents method for phones to check for messages without full power
Samsung has filed a patent for a way to manage power in 5G and 6G networks. The system allows a phone to tell the network what it can do, then receive specific schedules to decide when to briefly wake up and check for new data.
In the filing’s own words
The present disclosure relates to a 5G or 6G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate. A method performed by a UE in a wireless communication system, according to the present disclosure, may comprise the steps of: reporting capability information thereof to a base station; receiving Cell DTX pattern information from the base station; receiving an RRCReconfiguration message from the base station; acquiring DCP configuration information included in the RRCReconfiguration message; on the basis of a Cell DTX pattern and the DCP configuration information, determining whether or not to monitor a DCP or a PDCCH; and monitoring the DCP or the PDCCH on the basis of whether or not to monitor.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising: transmitting, to a base station, a first message including capability information of the UE; receiving, from the base station, a second message including cell discontinuous transmission (DTX) pattern information; receiving, from the base station, an RRCReconfiguration message including wake-up signal (WUS) configuration information; identifying whether a PDCCH can be monitored, based on the second message and the RRCReconfiguration message; and monitoring the PDCCH based on the identification.
