Samsung patents phone design that stacks charging coil and wires
Samsung describes a layout for electronic devices where a flexible circuit board sits directly on top of a wireless charging coil. To prevent the wires from interfering with the charging signal, a thin shielding layer is placed between the two components.
In the filing’s own words
A wirelessly chargeable electronic device according to various embodiments may comprise: a first circuit board; a second circuit board; a battery; a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) electrically connecting the first circuit board and the second circuit board to each other; and a wireless charging antenna stacked on the FPBC, wherein at least a part of the FPBC is arranged overlap in the width range of a pattern of the wireless charging antenna.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An electronic device capable of wireless charging, comprising: a first circuit board; a second circuit board; a battery; a flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) configured to electrically connect the first circuit board and the second circuit board to each other; a wireless charging antenna; and a shielding member comprising an electromagnetic shielding material, wherein the wireless charging antenna, the shielding member, and the FPCB are vertically stacked on different layers such that the shielding member is interposed between the wireless charging antenna and the FPCB, wherein at least a part of the FPCB is arranged to at least partially overlap a width range of a conductive pattern of the wireless charging antenna, and wherein at least one conductor of the FPCB extends in a direction parallel to and/or perpendicular to the conductive pattern of the wireless charging antenna.
