Samsung has patented a method for devices to communicate directly with each other using specific control signals. A method of operating a UE includes receiving a first stage sidelink control information (SCI) format that includes information on a second stage SCI format. The first stage SCI format is a SCI format 1-A and the second stage SCI format is a SCI format 2-C. The method further includes receiving the SCI format 2-C and determining, based on an indicator field in the SCI format 2-C, a type of information included in the SCI format 2-C.

A second user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system, the second UE comprising: a transceiver; and at least one processor coupled with the transceiver and configured to: receive, from a first UE on a physical sidelink control channel (PSCCH), a first stage sidelink control information (SCI) format including a field with 2 bits indicating a second stage SCI format for inter-UE coordination information, wherein, in case that a value of the field is 10, the field indicates a SCI format 2-C, and receive, from the first UE on a physical sidelink shared channel (PSSCH), the SCI format 2-C including a one bit indicator, wherein, in case that a value of the one bit indicator is 0, the SCI format 2-C is used for providing the inter-UE coordination information, wherein, in case that the value of the one bit indicator is 1, the SCI format 2-C is used for requesting the inter-UE coordination information, wherein, in case that the SCI format 2-C is for providing the inter-UE coordination information, the SCI format 2-C includes information on a first resource location and information on a resource type, and wherein the information on the resource type indicates preferred resources or non-preferred resources.
