Samsung patents antenna selection to prevent signal interference between networks
This patent describes a method for electronic devices with multiple antenna groups to manage signal transmission across different communication networks. The device uses timing information from base stations to select specific antennas that are physically spaced apart, ensuring that a reference signal for one network is sent without interfering with data traffic on another network.
In the filing’s own words
An electronic device according to an embodiment may include: a communication processor; at least one radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC); a first antenna group including a plurality of antennas for transmitting or receiving data of a first communication network; and a second antenna group including a plurality of antennas for transmitting or receiving data of a second communication network, wherein the communication processor may be configured to control to: receive, from a first base station corresponding to the first communication network or a second base station corresponding to the second communication network, first information related to the transmission time of a reference signal transmitted to the first base station; receive, from the second base station, second information related to the time at which the data of the second communication network is transmitted and received; and select a first antenna adjacent to a second antenna from among the plurality of antennas of the first antenna group at the time at which uplink data is transmitted to the second base station through a second antenna of the second antenna group on the basis of the received first information and the received second information, so as to transmit the reference signal to the first base station.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An electronic device comprising: at least one communication processor comprising processor circuitry; at least one radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) connected to the at least one communication processor; a first antenna group, comprising a plurality of antennas, connected to the at least one RFIC to transmit or receive data of a first communication network; and a second antenna group, comprising a plurality of antennas, connected to the at least one RFIC to transmit or receive data of a second communication network, wherein the first communication network supports a first access technology and the second communication network supports a second access technology that is a different from the first access technology, the first antenna group and the second antenna group being distinct from one another; wherein the communication processor is configured, individually or collectively to: receive, from a first base station corresponding to the first communication network and/or a second base station corresponding to the second communication network, first information regarding a transmission timepoint of a reference signal to be transmitted to the first base station; receive, from the second base station, second information regarding a timepoint at which data of the second communication network is transmitted and/or received; and select a first antenna relatively spaced apart from a second antenna, among the plurality of antennas of the first antenna group, and control to transmit, at a timepoint at which uplink data is transmitted to the second base station through the second antenna of the second antenna group, the reference signal to the first base station via the selected first antenna, based on the received first information and the received second information.
