Samsung patents antenna method to boost signal strength for multiple users
Samsung has secured a patent for a method that helps cell towers manage connections with multiple devices simultaneously. The system assigns specific frequency bands and adjusts the antenna's signal direction, or beam, to maximize the connection strength for each user.
In the filing’s own words
Method and apparatuses for scheduling and beam design in joint phase time arrays (JPTAs). In another embodiment, a method for operating a base station (BS) is provided. The method includes identifying a set of user equipments (UEs) to schedule, a plurality of resource blocks (RBs), and a UE beam map. The UE beam map maps one or more beams from a plurality of beams to one or more UEs in the set of UEs. The method further includes allocating, for a UE in the set of UEs, one or more RBs from the plurality of RBs based the UE beam map and a beam gain on the one or more RBs in a direction of the UE. The method further includes determining a JPTA beam for the UE. The method further includes transmitting scheduling information indicating the allocated one or more RBs and the determined one or more JPTA beams.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A base station (BS) comprising: a processor configured to: identify a plurality of user equipments (UEs) to schedule, a plurality of resource blocks (RBs), and a UE beam map, wherein the UE beam map maps one or more beams from a plurality of beams to one or more UEs in the set-plurality of UEs; determine, for each UE in the plurality of UEs, (i) a beam direction based the UE beam map and (ii) a set of RBs from the plurality of RBs based on a beam gain on the set of RBs in the beam direction of the each UE, wherein the sets of RBs determined for the UEs, respectively, are over different frequencies; and determine a joint phase time array (JPTA) beam for each of the plurality of UEs; and a transceiver operably coupled to the processor, the transceiver configured to transmit scheduling information indicating the determined sets of RBs and the determined JPTA beams.
