Samsung patents memory chip calibration for different voltage levels
This patent describes a method for calibrating the signal drivers inside a memory chip. It uses a standard calibration process at one voltage level and then mathematically calculates the correct settings for other voltage levels without repeating the physical test.
In the filing’s own words
Disclosed is a memory device which includes a driver unit that includes a pull-up driver and a pull-down driver, a ZQ calibration unit that performs ZQ calibration with respect to the driver unit based on an external resistor and a first reference voltage and generates a first ZQ code corresponding to the first reference voltage, and a code conversion unit that generates a second ZQ code corresponding to a second reference voltage different from the first reference voltage, based on the first ZQ code.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A memory device comprising: a driver circuit including a pull-up driver and a pull-down driver; a ZQ calibration circuit configured to perform ZQ calibration with respect to the driver circuit based on a resistance value and a first reference voltage, and generate a first ZQ code corresponding to the first reference voltage based on the ZQ calibration; and a code conversion circuit configured to: based on the first ZQ code, generate a second ZQ code corresponding to a second reference voltage different from the first reference voltage, and based on the first ZQ code, generate a third ZQ code corresponding to a third reference voltage different from the first reference voltage and the second reference voltage, wherein the first reference voltage, the second reference voltage, and the third reference voltage are in a range between a power supply voltage of the memory device and a ground voltage.
