Sony patents method for offloading avatar rendering to other devices
Sony has patented a method where a gaming console or PC sends a request to another device to create a user's avatar. The second device renders the visual model and sends it back, allowing the main system to save processing power while still displaying the character.
In the filing’s own words
Disclosed herein is a method and system for generating an adjustment in a visual aspect of a computer-implemented interactive environment. The method and system conserve the resources of the computing resource implementing the environment and still enable visual representations of users, such as avatars, to be generated.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A computer-implemented method comprising: executing, by a first electronic device, a computer-implemented entertainment environment; transmitting, by the first electronic device to a second electronic device, a request to manage an appearance of the computer-implemented entertainment environment; in response to the request, receiving, by the first electronic device from the second electronic device, a rendered avatar; and incorporating, by the first electronic device, the rendered avatar into the computer-implemented entertainment environment as the computer-implemented entertainment environment is being executed by the first electronic device.
