Samsung patents method for managing 5G signal configurations
This patent describes a way for mobile devices to handle multiple signal settings, known as TCI states, during data transmission. The device receives a list of these settings from the network and uses a specific code to determine which setting to apply for sending or receiving data.
In the filing’s own words
Methods and apparatuses for signaling transmission configuration indication (TCI) states. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) includes receiving, in a first radio resource control (RRC) signaling, a list of TCI states including first and second groups of TCI states; receiving, in a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE), one or more sets of transmission configuration indication (TCI) states; and receiving, in a downlink control information (DCI), a TCI codepoint indicating a set of one or more first indicated TCI states or one or more second indicated TCI states. The method further includes identifying, based on the first RRC signaling, the first and second groups of TCI states; identifying, based on the TCI codepoint in the DCI, a set of one or more first and second applicable TCI states; and transmitting or receiving a signal based on an applicable TCI state from the identified set.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A user equipment (UE), comprising: a transceiver configured to: receive, in a first radio resource control (RRC) signaling, a list of transmission configuration indication (TCI) states comprising first and second TCI states; receive, in a medium access control (MAC) control element (CE), one or more sets of TCI states each set associated with a first indicator and mapped to a respective TCI codepoint of a TCI field in a downlink control information (DCI); and receive, in the DCI, a TCI codepoint indicating a set of one or more first indicated TCI states or one or more second indicated TCI states; and a processor operably coupled with the transceiver, the processor configured to identify, based on the TCI codepoint in the DCI, a set of one or more first and second applicable TCI states, wherein the transceiver is further configured to transmit or receive a signal based on an applicable TCI state from the identified set of one or more first and second applicable TCI states, and wherein the processor is further configured to: when the TCI codepoint in the DCI indicates the set of one or more first indicated TCI states, use the one or more first indicated TCI states as the one or more first applicable TCI states; and when the TCI codepoint in the DCI indicates the set of one or more second indicated TCI states, use the one or more second indicated TCI states as the one or more second applicable TCI states.
