Samsung patents antenna filter design to reduce signal interference
Samsung has been granted a patent for a wireless communication device that uses a specific arrangement of filters and antennas. The system splits a signal from a power amplifier into multiple paths, each passing through a filter before reaching an antenna element. The design ensures that unwanted signal reflections from one filter are canceled out by reflections from another filter.
In the filing’s own words
The present disclosure relates to an electronic device for radiating an output signal in a wireless communication system. In one embodiment, the electronic device includes: a power amplifier configure to receive an input signal; a splitter connected to the power amplifier, which a plurality of branches; a plurality of filters connected to the plurality of branches of the splitter; and a plurality of antenna elements connected to the plurality of filters. The plurality of antenna elements radiates the output signal that is a portion of the input signal received by the power amplifier.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A device for radiating a signal in a wireless communication system, the device comprising: a power amplifier; a splitter configured to divide a signal received from the power amplifier into multiple transmission lines; a plurality of filters, each filter receiving a divided signal from the splitter via each transmission line; and a plurality of antenna elements, each antenna element being coupled to a corresponding filter and receiving a filtered signal from the corresponding filter, wherein at least a portion of a first reflected wave by a first incident wave for a first filter is canceled by a second reflected wave by a second incident wave for a second filter.
