Samsung patents method to bundle 5G antenna data for faster transmission
Samsung has been granted a patent for a method that allows 5G base station components to combine data from multiple antenna ports into a single message. This technique, known as section extension, reduces the number of data packets sent between the distributed unit and the radio unit, streamlining the internal communication of the network hardware.
In the filing’s own words
A method performed by a distributed unit (DU) including transmitting a management message including information for indicating a representative extended antenna-carrier (eAxC) port to a radio unit (RU) through a fronthaul interface is provided. The method includes transmitting a control plane message including section information and section extension information for resource allocation to the RU through the fronthaul interface. The section extension information is used to combine a plurality of user plane (U-plane) messages into one U-plane message in the DU or the RU. The representative eAxC port of the fronthaul interface is used for transmitting or receiving of the combined one U-plane message.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method performed by a distributed unit (DU), the method comprising: transmitting, to a radio unit (RU) through a fronthaul interface, a management plane (M-plane) message indicating a plurality of extended antenna-carrier (eAxC) ports that include a representative eAxC port; transmitting, to the RU through the fronthaul interface, a control plane (C-plane) message including section information for resource allocation and section extension information that indicates the RU to combine uplink data of the plurality of eAxC ports into one user plane (U-plane) message; and receiving, from the RU through the fronthaul interface, the U-plane message of the representative eAxC port, that includes the uplink data of the plurality of eAxC ports, wherein the uplink data of the plurality of eAxC ports are associated with a same subcarrier spacing.
