1. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising: receiving, from a base station, a radio resource control (RRC) connection reconfiguration message including bearer configuration information, wherein the bearer configuration information includes packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) configuration information on at least one data radio bearer (DRB) and security algorithm information to be used for the at least one DRB; adding the at least one DRB based on the bearer configuration information and configuring a new radio (NR) PDCP entity of the at least one DRB based on the PDCP configuration information; and activating an integrity protection function associated with the NR PDCP entity of the at least one DRB based on the security algorithm information upon the addition of the at least one DRB, wherein the base station is a long-term evolution (LTE) base station different from an NR base station, and wherein the security algorithm information for all signaling radio bearers (SRBs) and all DRBs is signaled identically by the bearer configuration information.
