Samsung patents faster 5G connection for simple devices
Samsung has been granted a patent for a method that allows basic 5G devices to identify themselves to the network more quickly. The device uses a specific combination of signals and data channels to tell the network it has limited capabilities, allowing it to send data immediately without extra steps.
In the filing’s own words
A system and method for providing early indication by a reduced capability New Radio (NR) User Equipment (UE). In some embodiments the reduced capability UE informs the network, by its use of a combination of preamble, Random Access Channel Occasion (RO), and initial bandwidth part (BWP), that it is a reduced capability UE. In some embodiments, the reduced capability UE transmits payload data in a Message A message. In some embodiments, the reduced capability UE receives, from the network, a set of candidate uplink resources, and transmits a Message 3 message within a subset of the set of candidate uplink resources.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method, comprising: receiving, by a reduced capability user equipment (UE), a synchronization signal block comprising an indication of an extended Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) Occasion (PO) set reserved for reduced capability UEs; and transmitting, by the reduced capability UE, a Message A message in a PO from the extended PO set wherein the transmitting of the Message A message comprises transmitting, by the reduced capability UE, payload data, and wherein the reduced capability UE uses transmitting in the PO from the extended PO set to indicate that the reduced capability UE is a reduced capability UE.
