Samsung patents method to coordinate 5G base stations for better coverage
This patent describes a method where a central network controller gathers data from multiple 5G base stations to predict how busy they are. It then decides which stations should work together to manage data traffic in areas where their signals overlap, ensuring smoother connections for users.
In the filing’s own words
The disclosure relates to a communication method and system for converging a 5 th -Generation (5G) communication system for supporting higher data rates beyond a 4 th -Generation (4G) system with a technology for Internet of Things (IoT). The disclosure applies to intelligent services based on the 5G communication technology and the IoT-related technology, such as smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car, connected car, health care, digital education, smart retail, security and safety services. A method performed by a network-side control node in mobile communication system is provided. The method includes acquiring information related to cooperative scheduling corresponding to a base station, determining configuration information for cooperative scheduling on traffics in overlapped beam coverage areas associated with a plurality of base stations including the base station, based on the information related to cooperative scheduling, and transmitting, to the base station, the configuration information.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method performed by a network-side control node in a communication system, the method comprising: obtaining, from a plurality of base stations, base station status information and user equipment (UE) status information; determining scheduling status information of cells of the plurality of base stations based on the base station status information and the UE status information, wherein the scheduling status information indicates a predicted physical resource block (PRB) utilization and a predicted number of active beams for each of the cells; determining cell types of the cells based on the scheduling status information, wherein a cell type is one of a first type requiring cooperative scheduling, a second type for performing the cooperative scheduling, or a third type excluded from the cooperative scheduling; determining a cell to perform scheduling of traffic in a beam coverage area overlapped among the cells of the plurality of base stations, based on the cell types; and transmitting, to a base station of the cell, configuration information for the cooperative scheduling.
