Samsung patents method to manage overlapping wireless signals in phones
This patent describes a method for electronic devices to handle multiple wireless connections that operate on the same frequency bands. The device checks if a secondary signal overlaps with its primary connection and only reports the secondary signal's strength if the main connection is fast enough to handle it.
In the filing’s own words
An electronic device may include at least one antenna, a wireless communication circuit configured to support a first communication protocol and a second communication protocol, and at least one processor. The at least one processor may control the wireless communication circuit to communicate with a base station through at least one first cell using the first communication protocol in at least one frequency band, and may control the wireless communication circuit to receive, from the base station, configuration information on a second cell using the second communication protocol different from the first communication protocol. The at least one processor may determine, based on the configuration information on the second cell, whether a frequency band of the second cell is included in the at least one frequency band, may determine whether a blocking condition is satisfied, and may control the wireless communication circuit to transmit a measurement result of the second cell to the base station or control the measurement result of the second cell not to be reported to the base station.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An electronic device comprising: at least one antenna; a wireless communication circuitry electrically connected with the at least one antenna and supporting a first communication protocol and a second communication protocol; at least one processor, electrically connected with the wireless communication circuitry; and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor individually or collectively, cause the electronic device to: receive, from a base station on a first cell associated with the first communication protocol, configuration information on a second cell associated with the second communication protocol; determine that a frequency band of the second cell is included in a frequency band of the first cell, based on the configuration information; in response to a downlink (DL) throughput of the electronic device being greater than a threshold value: compare a first measurement result for the first cell and a second measurement result for the second cell, and transmit, to the base station, the second measurement result for the second cell based on the second measurement result being greater than the first measurement result, wherein, in response to the DL throughput being equal to or less than the threshold value, the second measurement result for the second cell is not to be transmitted to the base station.
