Samsung patents light-curing method for quantum dot materials
This patent describes a two-step process for hardening a liquid mixture into a solid material. The method uses a weak light source first, followed by a much stronger light source to activate quantum dots and reactive chemicals within the composition.
In the filing’s own words
The present invention relates to a process for fabricating cured composition.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A process for fabricating cured composition comprising at least following steps; a) irradiating a composition with a light as a first light irradiation; and b) irradiating the composition with a light as a second light irradiation; wherein the composition comprises at least one light emitting moiety and a reactive monomer, wherein an intensity of the light of the first light irradiation and an intensity of the light of the second light irradiation satisfies the following formula (I): the intensity of the light of the first light irradiation<the intensity of the light of the second light irradiation (I), wherein the composition further comprises a quantum dot (QD) material, wherein the intensity of the light of the first light irradiation at step (a) is in a range from 0.1 mW/cm 2 to 20 mW/cm 2 and the intensity of the light of the second light irradiation at step (b) is in a range from 200 mW/cm 2 to 5 W/cm 2, and wherein an irradiation time of the first light irradiation at step a) is in a range from 1 second to 500 seconds and an irradiation time of the second light irradiation at step b) is in a range from 1 second to 500 seconds.
