Questions
Where does this data come from?
From the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which publishes every US safety recall in a file it updates daily. This page shows all recalls reported since 2010.
Does a recall for my model mean my car is affected?
Not always. Many recalls cover only cars built in certain plants or date ranges. Enter your 17-character VIN on the official NHTSA page linked from each recall to check your exact car.
Do I have to pay for a recall repair?
No. Safety recall repairs are free at the brand’s dealers, including for cars bought used.
What does “Do not drive” mean?
NHTSA and the maker have told owners not to drive the vehicle at all until it is repaired, because the defect is especially dangerous.
What does “Park outside” mean?
The defect can cause a fire even when the vehicle is off, so owners are told to park outside and away from buildings until it is repaired.
