Mopar recall: Steering
What is wrong
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain Mopar Steering Rack and Pinion Electric Gear Assemblies for Ram 1500 trucks (part number 68419897AB) sold as service replacement parts. The electric power steering (EPS) gears may contain a contaminated circuit card assembly that can short circuit.
What could happen
A short circuit can cause an intermittent loss of power steering assist, requiring an inconsistent steering effort to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the EPS gear assembly, free of charge. The recall began December 19, 2019. Owners may contact FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is VB9.
