Hy-Rail recall: Equipment
What is wrong
Harsco Rail is recalling certain accessory HY-RAIL HR4000 series B and HY-RAIL HR4100 series B rear guide wheel units, within the serial number range 60100 through 63494. These units are installed for use on various work trucks to enable the vehicle to travel on railroad tracks. The potentially affected units may have been manufactured with an insufficient weld on the upper structure.
What could happen
If the weld fails on the guide wheel unit while the vehicle is traveling on a roadway, it could create a potential road hazard, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
The fix
Notification to owners began on December 10, 2012. Authorized repair facilities will weld on a retrofit kit, free of charge. For more information, owners may contact Harsco Rail at 1-803-822-9160.
