Google patents method to pick main voice assistant based on resource use
Google has filed a patent for a system that chooses which voice assistant is the primary one on a device by calculating how much computing power each option needs. The system assigns an "affinity score" to each candidate assistant and selects the one that best fits the device's available resources. Once chosen, this primary assistant gets priority access to the device's processing power when handling user requests.
In the filing’s own words
Implementations related to selecting a primary automated assistant for a given automated assistant device that is connected to one or more other automated assistant devices in an ecosystem of connected devices. An affinity score is generated for each of a plurality of candidate automated assistants that are capable of executing on the automated assistant device. The affinity score of a given automated assistant for an automated assistant device is indicative of suitability of the automated assistant for the automated assistant device. One of the candidate automated assistants is selected as the primary automated assistant for the device. The primary automated assistant is prioritized when resources of the automated assistant device are allocated to automated assistants executing on the automated assistant device.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method implemented by one or more processors, comprising: identifying a plurality of automated assistants accessible via a client device; selecting a primary automated assistant from the plurality of automated assistants, wherein selecting the primary assistant from the plurality of automated assistants comprises: determining, for the plurality of automated assistants, an extent of computing resources required for each of the plurality of automated assistants to be used in processing requests received at the client device; and selecting the primary automated assistant based on a particular extent of computing resources required for the primary automated assistant to be used in processing requests received at the client device; and causing, subsequent to selecting the primary automated assistant from the plurality of automated assistants, the primary automated assistant to be used in processing a particular request received at the client device.
