Google has been granted a patent for a system that uses AI to automatically take notes and create summaries during virtual meetings. The technology processes audio and video from participants to build an initial summary, then continuously updates it as the meeting progresses to keep the information current.

Aspects of the disclosure are directed to automatic note taking and summary generation based on meeting discussions. Media streams that are generated by participants of a virtual meeting can be provided as input data to an artificial intelligence (AI) model. The AI model can use the received input data to take notes on the portion of the virtual meeting that is captured in the input data and to generate a summary of the portion of the virtual meeting that is captured in the input data. The meeting summaries can be provided for presentation to the participants of the virtual meeting at predetermined time intervals.

1. A method comprising: causing a virtual meeting user interface (UI) to be presented during a virtual meeting between a plurality of participants; creating, using one or more artificial intelligence (AI) models and using media streams generated by a plurality of client devices associated with the plurality of participants during a first portion of the virtual meeting as input to the one or more AI models, an initial meeting summary of the virtual meeting; obtaining, using the one or more AI models and using: (i) the initial meeting summary of the virtual meeting, and (ii) additional media streams generated by the plurality of client devices during a second portion of the virtual meeting as additional input to the one or more AI models, an updated meeting summary of the virtual meeting; and providing the updated meeting summary for presentation to one or more of the plurality of participants.
