Sony patents speed-based tuning for vehicle light sensors
Sony describes a system where a vehicle's light sensor adjusts its settings based on how fast the car is moving. The system changes the light's frequency, intensity, or exposure time to create a clearer map of surrounding objects.
In the filing’s own words
A light output sensor and a point cloud map generated on the basis of sensor detection information are controlled according to a speed of a mobile body, to enable optimal object detection according to the speed of the mobile body. There are provided: a sensor that is attached to a mobile body, outputs light with a predetermined frequency from a light transmission unit, and is input with reflected light from the object via a light reception unit; a point cloud map generation unit that is input with a sensor detection value to generate a point cloud map indicating an object position; and a control unit that controls at least one of the sensor or the point cloud map generation unit. The control unit performs control to change at least one of a frequency or intensity of output light of the sensor, an exposure time of input light of the sensor, or a point cloud cut region in a point cloud map, in accordance with a speed of the mobile body.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An information processing device comprising: a sensor attached to a mobile body, the sensor being configured to output light with a predetermined frequency from a light transmission unit and to be input with reflected light from an object via a light reception unit; a point cloud map generation unit configured to be input with a detection value of the sensor, to generate a point cloud map indicating an object position; and a control unit configured to execute control on at least one of the sensor or the point cloud map generation unit, wherein the control unit performs control to change at least one of a frequency or intensity of output light of the sensor, an exposure time of input light of the sensor, or a point cloud cut region in a point cloud map generated by the point cloud map generation unit, in accordance with a speed of the mobile body.
