Sony patents car system that texts pedestrians after near-misses
Sony has been granted a patent for a vehicle system that detects when a car performs an emergency maneuver to avoid a collision. The system identifies a nearby pedestrian as the likely cause of the sudden action and sends a notification to their phone to alert them.
In the filing’s own words
A method of notifying a target that the target was a likely cause of an emergency action performed by a vehicle is provided. The method comprises monitoring, by control circuitry in the vehicle, one or more parameters of the vehicle indicating a motion of the vehicle, detecting, by the control circuitry based on the monitored parameters, that an emergency action has been performed by the vehicle to avoid a collision, identifying, by the control circuitry, that an object in a region surrounding the vehicle was a likely cause of the emergency action, the object being a notification target, causing, by the control circuitry in combination with transmitter circuitry in the vehicle, a notification to be transmitted to at least one of a communication device of the notification target or a server indicating that the notification target was the likely cause of the emergency action.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method of notifying a target that the target was a likely cause of an emergency action performed by a vehicle, the method comprising monitoring, by control circuitry in the vehicle, one or more parameters of the vehicle indicating a motion of the vehicle, detecting, by the control circuitry based on the monitored parameters, that an emergency action has been performed by the vehicle to avoid a collision, identifying, by the control circuitry and in response to the emergency action being performed, that an object in a region surrounding the vehicle was a likely cause of the emergency action performed, the object being a notification target, and transmitting, with transmitter circuitry in the vehicle using vehicle to pedestrian communication, a notification to a communication device of the notification target indicating that the notification target was the likely cause of the emergency action performed, wherein the notification target is a pedestrian.
