Samsung patents 5G method to fix errors in split AI processing
Samsung has filed a patent for a method that helps 5G or 6G networks handle errors when a neural network is split between a phone and a server. The phone sends partial results with error-checking codes, and if the server finds a mistake, it uses a backup part of the network to correct the data before finishing the calculation.

The present disclosure relates to a 5G or 6G communication system to support higher data transmission rates. A server, in a communication system, may be configured to: receive, from a user equipment, intermediate data including result values obtained by processing at least one first layer from among a plurality of layers constituting a neural network and error detection codes for the result values; check whether there is an error in the intermediate data on the basis of the error detection codes; when an error is detected in the intermediate data, process the result values of the intermediate data by means of a second layer trained to correspond to the first layer; and derive a final result by processing an output of the second layer by means of at least one third layer subsequent to the first layer from among the plurality of layers.

1. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) in a communication system, the method comprising: obtaining configuration information for a transmission mode of intermediate data by split processing of a neural network; generating result values through processing of at least one first layer among a plurality of layers forming the neural network; generating the intermediate data by attaching error detection codes for the result values to the result values, based on the configuration information; and transmitting, to a server, the generated intermediate data including at least one subsequent second layer among the plurality of layers.
