Samsung patents AI method to estimate wireless signal features
Samsung describes a method where a wireless receiver extracts hidden data from standard reference signals sent by a transmitter. It uses this data to train a generative neural network that can estimate specific radio characteristics of the connection.
In the filing’s own words
A method and a device for training and inference based on a generative neural network are provided. According to an embodiment, a receiver in a wireless communication system includes: communication circuitry; at least one processor communicatively connected to the communication circuitry; and memory storing at least one instruction that, when executed by the one or more processors individually or collectively, causes the receiver to: extract latent information from a reference signal (RS) of a first signal, received from a transmitter via the communication circuitry, estimate radio feature information related to the transmitter based on the latent information, and train a generative neural network for estimating radio feature information based on at least one dataset including the latent information and the estimated radio feature information.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A receiver in a wireless communication system, comprising: communication circuitry; one or more processors communicatively connected to the communication circuitry; and memory storing at least one instruction that, when executed by the one or more processors individually or collectively, causes the receiver to: extract latent information from a reference signal (RS) of a first signal received from a transmitter via the communication circuitry; based on the latent information, estimate radio feature information related to the transmitter; and based on at least one dataset comprising the latent information and the estimated radio feature information, train a generative neural network for estimating radio feature information.
