Samsung patents watch straps that use magnets to adjust fit
Samsung describes a wearable device where the strap uses magnets to change how tightly it fits. One side has fixed magnets, while the other side uses electric signals to create magnetic forces that pull or push against them.
In the filing’s own words
A wearable electronic device may include: a housing; a first wearable member detachably disposed on one side of the housing; a second wearable member detachably disposed on the other side of the housing and aligned with the first wearable member along a first direction with the housing therebetween, wherein the second wearable member can be coupled to at least partially face the first wearable member and form a closed curve together with the housing and the first wearable member; first magnetic bodies arranged in the first wearable member wherein first polarities and second polarities are alternately arranged along the first direction; and at least one pair of second magnetic bodies arranged in the second wearable member along the first direction. At least one pair of second magnetic bodies may be configured to receive electrical signals and generate attractive or repulsive force with respect to the first magnetic bodies.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A wearable electronic device, comprising: a housing; a first wearing member comprising a first strap detachably disposed on one side of the housing; a second wearing member comprising a second strap detachably disposed on another side of the housing and aligned with the first wearing member in a first direction with the housing interposed therebetween, the second wearing member configured to form a closed curve with the housing and the first wearing member by being coupled with the first wearing member while at least partially facing the first wearing member; first magnetic bodies arranged on the first wearing member so that first polarities and second polarities of the first magnetic bodies are alternately arranged along the first direction; and at least one pair of second magnetic bodies arranged in the second wearing member along the first direction, wherein the at least one pair of second magnetic bodies are configured to generate attractive force and/or repulsive force with the first magnetic bodies based on receiving an electric signal.
