Patent drawing
Patent drawing from the official filing.

This filing describes a method for handling high traffic when selling limited-availability items. The system monitors incoming requests and automatically creates extra digital resources to prevent the website from crashing or slowing down.

Why it mattersIt aims to make buying popular, limited-release items smoother by preventing the technical glitches that often happen when many people try to buy at once.

In the filing’s own words

Systems and methods for mitigating network disruption associated with the reserving of products, events, or services that have limited availability are provided. A product reservation system may be used to announce the availability of limited availability products. Consumers may submit one or more reservation requests for limited availability products being offered. The system may be configured to mitigate network disruptions associated with the receiving and/or processing of the one or more reservation requests.
