Nvidia patents GPU method for finding diverse solutions to complex problems
Nvidia describes a processor architecture that uses parallel processing units, such as those in a graphics card, to solve complex computational problems. The system takes multiple candidate answers, modifies them simultaneously, and selects a final result based on how different the options are from one another.
In the filing’s own words
Systems and methods in accordance with the present disclosure can implement a parallel processing system, such as a graphics processing unit (GPU)-based system, to generate solutions to complex computational problems. Aspects of this technical solution can retrieve a plurality of solutions each representing a plurality of values in a multi-dimensional space, allocate, to one or more processing units associated with the one or more circuits and having a parallelized configuration, one or more of the plurality of solutions, modify, by the one or more processing units according to the parallelized configuration, at least one value of the one or more solutions allocated to the one or more processing units, to determine a plurality of modified solutions, and output, from the plurality of modified solutions, according to one or more criteria indicating a diversity among the plurality of modified solutions, a selected solution.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. At least one processor, to: modify, by one or more circuits, at least one solution of a plurality of solutions allocated to the one or more circuits and retrieved from memory, wherein each solution of the plurality of solutions represents a plurality of values that correspond to a unique candidate solution for a parallelized search computation; output, from the at least one modified solution, a selected solution, wherein the selected solution is selected based on a deviation metric; and cause at least one of (i) modification of a computing system or (ii) a determination of navigation through one or more locations or paths according to the selected solution.
