Google patents phone feature to pause SIM updates during use
This filing describes a method for smartphones to handle internal memory resets in the SIM card. If the phone detects that you are actively using a service, it holds off on updating the SIM data until you stop using it.
In the filing’s own words
A user equipment (UE) device in a mobile cellular network implements one or more techniques to manage subscriber identity module (SIM) memory reset events. For example, the UE device sends a SIM memory reset request to at least one SIM. In response to sending the SIM memory request to the SIM, the UE device receives a SIM update command from the SIM for a SIM memory reset event. The UE device, in response to receiving the first SIM update command, generates a refresh command for updating information associated with the SIM. Responsive to detecting current user activity associated with the first SIM, the UE device queues the generated first refresh command until one or more conditions are satisfied. Responsive to detecting no current user activity associated with the first SIM, the UE device processes, without queueing, the generated first refresh command.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method at a user equipment (UE) device for managing subscriber identity module (SIM) memory reset events, the method comprising: responsive to sending a SIM memory reset request to a first SIM, receiving a first SIM update command from the first SIM for a SIM memory reset event; responsive to receiving the first SIM update command, generating a first refresh command for updating information associated with the first SIM; and responsive to detecting current user activity associated with the first SIM, queuing the generated first refresh command until one or more conditions are satisfied.
