Samsung patents method to block calls before connection starts
Samsung has filed a patent for a system that checks incoming call numbers against a block list before the phone fully connects. If the number is blocked, the device sends a rejection message to the caller without performing the usual steps to establish a call connection.
In the filing’s own words
An electronic device may include a processor, and a memory for storing instructions. When the instructions are executed by the processor(s), the electronic device can control that: a list of blocked call numbers is stored; a phone number related to a first message is identified on the basis of the first message for call reception being received; whether the phone number related to the first message is included in the list of blocked call numbers is identified; and, on the basis of the phone number related to the first message being included in the list of blocked call numbers, a second message for rejecting call reception is transmitted to an external device in a state in which at least one of operations for call connection is not performed.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An electronic device comprising: at least one processor comprising processing circuitry; and a memory configured to store a blocked number list, wherein the memory is configured to store instructions that, when executed individually and/or collectively by the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to: identify a number of an incoming call, based on reception of a message for the incoming call from an external device; control an IMS layer to acquire the blocked number list stored in the memory; control the IMS layer to identify whether the number of the incoming call is included in the blocked number list; and control to transmit a message rejecting the incoming call to the external device in a state in which operations for preparing establishment of a call connection are not performed based on the number of the incoming call being not included in the blocked number list.
