Sony patents noise cancellation that adjusts when sudden sounds hit
Sony describes a system that uses two different sensors to monitor vibrations and sounds. If one sensor detects a sudden loud noise, the system automatically lowers the power sent to the noise-canceling component to prevent interference.
In the filing’s own words
The present disclosure relates to a noise suppressing apparatus, a noise suppression method, and a program that make it possible to appropriately reduce noise. When a sudden sound is sensed on the basis of a sensor signal of a sensor in an FF-scheme NC apparatus, a drive signal to be supplied to an actuator in an FB-scheme NC apparatus is reduced. This can be applied to an NC apparatus.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A noise suppressing apparatus comprising: a first processing section that executes a process to reduce noise at a control point by generating and outputting a sound to cancel the noise or a vibration to excite a noise-source vibrating object, on a basis of a first sensor signal including an acceleration of the object; and a second processing section that executes a process to reduce noise at a control point by generating and outputting a sound to cancel the noise or a vibration to excite a noise-source vibrating object, on a basis of a second sensor signal that is different from the first sensor signal and includes an acceleration of the object, wherein, when a sudden sound is sensed on the basis of the first sensor signal, a drive signal at the second processing section is adjusted.
