A method comprising: receiving, by a generative response engine, a prompt from a user account wherein the prompt includes a request for information associated with at least one content item among content items in a content management system for an organization; generating, by the generative response engine, a search query based on the prompt; sending, by the generative response engine, the search query to an organization search tool that is effective to use the search query to search an index containing chunks of the content items of the organization; receiving, by the generative response engine, at least one chunk of a respective content item, wherein the at least one chunk was determined to be relevant by the organization search tool; determining, by the generative response engine, that the user account is authorized to access the respective content item based on a content item access index, wherein the content item access index comprises permission information for the content items in the content management system; and generating, by the generative response engine, a response to the prompt that is based, at least in part, one at least one chunk of the respective content item received from the organization search tool, and on the user account being authorized to access the respective content item.
