Sony patents shutter glasses for syncing XR with large screens
Sony describes a system that uses shutter glasses to synchronize virtual objects with content shown on a massive physical display. The system tracks the user's position relative to the screen and adjusts the virtual content in the glasses to match the angle of view.
In the filing’s own words
An apparatus includes processors executing memory-stored instructions to receive data related to presentation of a first content on a massive display, and identify a location of a headset in relation to the massive display. Based on the data and location, the processors actuate the headset to let light through a transparent display of the headset according to a first frequency for the massive display to present a second content at the headset in relation to the first content. The second content may be related to extended reality (XR) objects, and the processors further actuate the headset to present the XR objects in relation to the first content presented on the massive display. The second content may be adjusted at the headset according to the angle of view from the headset toward an object in the first content.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. An apparatus comprising: one or more processors; and memory storing executable instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to at least: receive data related to presentation of a first content on a massive display; identify a location of a headset in relation to the massive display; and based on the data and the location, actuate the headset to let light through a transparent display of the headset according to a first frequency for the massive display to present a second content at the headset in relation to the first content presented at the massive display.
