Samsung patents watch with screen that wraps around the band
Samsung has filed a patent for a wearable device where the flexible display covers not just the main face, but also extends onto the straps. The design uses bent sections of the screen to route electrical wires to different parts of the display, allowing the entire surface to show information.
In the filing’s own words
A wearable electronic device is provided. The wearable electronic device includes a frame, a first strap and a second strap which respectively extend from sides of the frame, and a display disposed on the frame, the first strap, and the second strap. The display includes a display panel, a first bending part, a second bending part, a first driving circuit disposed on a substrate extending through the first bending part, a second driving circuit disposed on a substrate of the display panel extending through the second bending part, first wires extending from the first driving circuit and connected to scan lines and data lines in a first display area of the display panel through the first bending part, and second wires extending from the second driving circuit and connected to scan lines and data lines in a second display area of the display panel through the second bending part.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A wearable electronic device comprising: a frame; a first strap extending from a first portion of a side surface of the frame and a second strap extending from a second portion of the side surface of the frame in a direction opposite to an extension direction of the first strap; and a flexible display disposed on the frame, the first strap, and the second strap; wherein the flexible display comprises: a display panel; a first bending part extending from a first side of the display panel and bent into a space surrounded by the frame; a second bending part extending from a second side of the display panel and bent into the space in the frame; first driving circuitry disposed on a substrate of the display panel extending through the first bending part; second driving circuitry disposed on a substrate of the display panel extending through the second bending part; first wires extending from the first driving circuitry and electrically connected to scan lines and data lines in a first display area of the display panel through the first bending part; and second wires extending from the second driving circuitry and electrically connected to scan lines and data lines in a second display area of the display panel through the second bending part.
