Google patents phones that fix their own voice call settings
This filing describes a method where a phone detects that it is set up to make calls but is currently blocked from doing so. The device then automatically updates its internal settings to remove the block, allowing voice calls to work without user intervention.
In the filing’s own words
A method and system for automatically configuring a device to facilitate voice communication by a device that is equipped to support voice-call service. An example method includes (i) the device detecting that, though it is equipped to support voice-call service, it is not configured to allow the voice-call service and (ii) in response, the device automatically reconfiguring itself to allow the voice-call service. In an example implementation, the voice-call service is Internet Protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) based voice-call service, the UE stores an Access Point Name (APN) Control List (ACL), the detecting that the UE is not configured to allow the voice-call service involves the UE detecting that the ACL does not list an IMS APN as an allowed APN, and the UE automatically reconfiguring itself to allow the voice-call service involves the UE adding the IMS APN to the ACL as an allowed APN.
What exactly they claim (claim 1)
1. A method comprising: detecting, by a user equipment device (UE) that is equipped to support voice-call communication, that the UE is not configured to allow a voice-call service; and responsive to at least the detecting, the UE automatically reconfiguring itself to allow the voice-call service.
